With 12 official tree-ski courses, tree skiing isn’t hidden on the fringes here. Naturally spaced forests and easy access from the trails open up powder-filled terrain for everyone from first-time tree skiers to seasoned riders.

With 60% of the mountain left ungroomed, fresh snow gets room to stay fresh. Natural bowls, rolling terrain, and forested runs hold deep, fluffy powder and give Madarao its freeride character.

MADAPOW

Deep snow is so central to Madarao that it has its own name. Known locally as “Madapow,” the mountain’s fluffy powder piles into bowls, ungroomed runs, and tree-lined terrain throughout the heart of winter.

LOCAL HACK

Tokyo is closer than it looks. Ride the Shinkansen to Iiyama Station in about 110 minutes, then take a roughly 30-minute bus or car ride to Madarao. Powder-filled tree runs can be within reach just a few hours after leaving the city.
